  • 1st Annual Great Bake Off

We are excited to invite all bakers to participate in the First Annual Great Bake-Off benefiting the Jarrell Library and Resource Center! Showcase your baking talents by entering in one or more of the following categories: Bread (such as homemade loaves, sweet rolls, or cornbread), Pie (fruit pies, cream pies, or savory pies), and Specialty Dessert (anything from cakes to cookies, or other creative baked goods). The registration fee is $25 per category, and two items are required for entry: one for judging and one to be auctioned off in our silent auction to support the library.

Your baked goods will be judged based on the following criteria:

    • Taste (40%): The overall flavor, balance of ingredients, and the pleasure of eating. Consideration will be given to how well the flavors come together and whether they match the description provided by the contestant.
    • Texture (20%): The consistency and mouthfeel appropriate for the type of baked good. This could include flakiness for pies, moistness for cakes, or the chewiness of cookies.
    • Appearance (20%): The visual appeal of the entry, including presentation, color, and creativity in design or decoration.
    • Creativity (10%): The originality and unique use of ingredients or presentation. Judges will look for something innovative or distinctive that sets the entry apart.
    • Overall Impression (10%): The general perception of the entry’s quality and appeal, considering the combination of all the elements to form a final judgment.

In addition, we are thrilled to announce the creation of our First Annual Great Bake-Off Cookbook, which will be sold at the festival! We kindly ask that you share a photo of your entry along with your recipe to be included in the book. If you aren’t ready to share your entry recipe, you’re welcome to submit another recipe of your choice to be featured. Don’t miss this opportunity to showcase your baking skills while contributing to a great cause and being part of something truly special!

Event Timing: Saturday, November 16th, 12:30pm

Baked Goods Delivery: Please have your entries delivered to the Jarrell Library by 10:30am. Judging will begin promptly at 12:30pm, and winners will be announced shortly after.
